Tuner Performance / Antenna Design

Postby Zweikeks » 10 Feb 2012, 14:02

Hi all,

in comparison to other tuners, the performance of the EM7195 tuner seemed to be quite poor. The radio signal is very strong where I live. While other tuners - even with only a small piece of wire in the antenna socket - did not have any problem, the EM7195 with antenna missed at least 4 channels out of the 27 available. I used the adapter delivered with the EM7195 together with some comercially available and also self-made antennas. Perhaps the adapter was the problem.

I finally use a quite sophisticated antenna. I had it built already years ago out of curiosity when DVB-T came up:

My cable lenght to the antenna is about 4m. And I omited the adapter, directly hooked it up with an F-connector.

I did no further investigation on this topic. Maybe it is only the adapter messing things up. Usually I use this type of self-made antenna:

Typically the performance is better than that of a cheap rod antenna comercially available.

Have fun!

Hi all,

perhaps there is a way to improve the tuner reception. I described it here:
