Toolchain fail

Postby tdejong282 » 23 May 2010, 15:43

I tried to install the toolchain, but failed..

/tmp/media/usb/USB1/547B9E481D530BE4 # ./mips-4.3-51-mips-linux-gnu.bin
Preparing to install...
./mips-4.3-51-mips-linux-gnu.bin: line 387: awk: not found
./mips-4.3-51-mips-linux-gnu.bin: line 387: tail: not found
sh: closing paren expected
WARNING! The amount of /tmp disk space required and/or available
could not be determined. The installation will be attempted anyway.
Extracting the JRE from the installer archive...
./mips-4.3-51-mips-linux-gnu.bin: line 648: awk: not found
The included VM could not be extracted. Please try to download
the installer again and make sure that you download using 'binary'
mode. Please do not attempt to install this currently downloaded copy.

Downloaded the .bin twice, once using wget and once using my pc, what is wrong?

You're missing several required programs, and they are clearly indicated on the screen by the installer:
line 387: awk: not found
line 387: tail: not found

You should do at least the following:

sudo apt-get install awk
sudo apt-get install tail

(Reading an error message is a minimum requirement. So if you don't read, you will never learn.)

Alex, how do you know that tdejong282 is using a .deb based distribution?

tdejong282, are you trying to install it on your EM7075 itself?

MartinHerman: I don't. It's a guess, since most popular distros have apt these days.

tdejong282: I suggest to Install Ubuntu and go from there. Note, that we don't oficially support this, and some linux knowledge is required. If you do not understand the two error messages, you would be shocked at the errors you may get when trying to compile software yourself and/or porting code to the EM7075..
